Why would someone pick a mangrove for their business name? They are messy, sometimes smelly and full of midgies, mozzies and crocodiles, right? Well, at first glance yes! However what is magnificent about mangroves, if you take the time to think about them, is their incredible resilience.
If we look at mangrove roots we can see their less than perfect or different start in life. We can see how they have had to plan and structure their roots to ensure the best for their future. I like to think this is an awesome metaphor for the kids I love to work with. We can see their difficult or different start to life and we need to think about the extra supports they may need. We are building this structure, like the mangrove’s root system, to ensure they can, with time, blossom into the fullest, thriving canopy/ adult that they can. Our hope is, when they grow up, this root system keeps them strong and successful in later life. Even though we may always see the roots, we will be most drawn to and in awe of the canopy.
In my career I’ve had the most amazing opportunity to work with families to help kids develop their own ‘root system’ and ‘foundations’ and that to me is where I like to be.
I chose Mangrove as a symbol of foundations, strength and resilience, things that I hope to help develop for all my clients and their families.
